Junior high school sophomores rose as winners of the Pop Dance Competition yesterday, March 9, during the opening of the Asianista Games 2017.
Garnering an average of 90.93, they were proclaimed as the victor out of all four levels who performed modern dances in the JHS department.
“Well, they deserved it. The ranking is best suited from what we’ve seen and what they’ve shown,” Jessica Sollano, one of the three judges, said. She is a co-founder of the Priima Dance Company and the Coach of Center for Pop Cebu.
“They were synchronized and energetic, every figure emphasized. They have originality in music and routine. Among all, they stood out,” she reasoned why they were her first choice.
Another judge, Jessie Ebina, said, “Among the four, they were the ones I could recall well. Their performance was clean and visibly had impact. They had a created an image after the show.”Ebina is also a former dance master of the CNU Dance Company and a member of the Priima Dance Company.
After tabulating the results, it was seen that there was a close fight between the scores of the winner and the rest of the placers.
“The scores have small differences. But in the end, it was in the matter of who was the best among the four groups,” Sollano said.
Taking the title of first place was the ninth grade, the juniors, with an average of 89.63. The third judge and a member of the Bisdak Pride theater group, Clemente Abalos III, said that they were his main choice as victors of the contest.
The seniors followed the juniors in the ranking, bearing an average of 88.3. The freshmen came in third place with an average of 82.63.
“The way they all participated is a good thing and overall, for me, the event they made was very nice,” Sollano said.
The said winners will be receiving awards during the closing ceremonies of the Asianista Games on Monday, March 13, 2017.
